Math and Science Curriculum Coordinator
My name is Carolyn Southard. I joined Endeavor Charter School in December 2013 as the Math and Science Curriculum Coordinator. I still feel as though I am new to the school as this is my first full school year at ECS. I am thrilled to be part of such a wonderful community and am looking forward to an exciting year in our new facility. I have many roles at school and can be found working with students (individually or in small groups), or with teachers to assist them in developing lesson plans and teaching strategies. I am also involved with special events, committees, professional development and many other things.
Some Background Information on Me:
I grew up in Massachusetts and graduated from the University of Massachusetts, ironically not as an education major. I moved to Boston and was working for a marketing company when I got the opportunity to teach "Project Business" to a 10th grade economics class at Boston Latin Academy. At the same time, I was also coaching a year-around YMCA swimming team. These two experiences ignited my passion for teaching and I went back to school to get a teaching degree. I graduated from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts with my degree to teach middle school math and science. Since then, I have attained my National Board Certification with a focus on mathematics education. I have taught for approximately twenty years, mainly at Durant Road Middle School in Raleigh.
