Hour of Code Links for Each Grade Level
-
Endeavor Charter School is participating in Hour of Code during the week of December 14-18. Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science. We believe that every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path. ECS will have all students in grades 2 through 8 participate. Students will be given opportunities to explore basic coding through a variety of interactive tutorials ranging from basic block coding to scratch to writing javascript. It is ESSENTIAL that students watch the videos that pop up at the beginning and throughout the activities. These videos give valuable instruction on the use of the activities. The website is code.org/learn.
Blocks (Blockly): Generally, we recommend that students learn to code using the Blocks option. These activities are the simplest to learn as they rely on students dragging blocks of code to build programs instead of having to type the exact code. The following activities are based on programming with Blocks:
