    One School, One Book
Last week we enjoyed a special ECS day! This was the culminating day from our school wide study of The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.  This was our first participation in a One School, One Book event in which all grades enjoy the same book written in picture book, early chapter, and adult chapter versions.

The books tell the true story of the life of William Kamkwamba and the transformation of his life in Malawi after....Cont'd on Mrs. Whiteside's Blog.

Congratulations to ECS 8th grader Robbie J. for advancing to the State Championship for the National Geographic Geography Bee. He will be heading to Charlotte on March 29th in order to compete with the top 100 students for the State title!

ECS 7th Graders traveled to the NC Food Bank and helped sort over 4100 meals!  This service project was an extension of February'sSouper Bowl canned food drive where ECS contributed 2745 pounds worth of items to the NC Food Bank. That equals 2,288 meals for families in need in Raleigh!

I worked with some students this week on first impressions.  By definition a first impression is what someone thinks of you when they first meet you.  Is making a good first impression as important as being open minded when you meet new people  or are both equally important?  Is it important to be yourself regardless of the impression it might make on others or is it important to present yourself in a manner that will be liked by many? I love hearing our students work through these questions. Finding oneself is a developmental goal of many of our students but the "how to" steps aren't written down in any textbooks.  The answers to these questions aren't simple, clear or easy and simply put there is no "right answer."   It is important to wrestle with these questions as we guide our children to the best versions of themselves.
