My name is Jennifer Owens Tatum and I have been teaching visual art for 14 years at the elementary and middle school level. This is currently my 9th year at Endeavor and have enjoyed being part of such a wonderful school community.I received my B.A in Art Education from UNC-Greensboro with a concentration in 2-D Design and Art History/Museum Studies and I am currently licesnsd to teach K-12 Visual Arts in North Carolina. As far as teaching goes, I teach from the perspective that all of us are creative beings, though not necessarily creating in the same way. I have high expectations for each student, but I recognize that all of us learn, create, and express our ideas in different ways. I encourage students to seek their own unique creative mode and to interpret ideas in ways that most appeal to their own creative nature.I truly enjoy being an educator at Endeavor and am inspired everyday at the dedication of the teachers and the students! My goal as a visual arts teacher is to spread my love of art, creativity, and learning to my students, and to teach them how to express themselves in safe and imaginative ways. When I'm not at school I enjoy learning metalsmithing techniques, creating needle felted paintings, playing guitar and listening to music, paddleboarding, relaxing at the beach, painting, and spending time with my son, Asher, who is a first grader at ECS this year!
