Elementary School FAQs
FAQs
- What does my student’s day look like?
- ES students take 4 core classes: ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
- K/1 classes are self-contained for all core classes
- 2 /3 classes rotate between two teachers (ELA, Math & Science SS)
- 4 / 5 classes rotate between four teachers (ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies)
- How would you describe your academic program?
ECS understands the importance of ensuring our students are prepared for the next steps in their academic careers. Therefore, we have created a rigorous, hands-on academic program that challenges each student to grow to their full potential. To help reach this goal, teachers regularly collect and analyze data to develop differentiated activities. This may include a focus on academic vocabulary, public speaking opportunities, analyzing sources and data, participating in content discussions, responding to a text in writing using evidence, and using question stems that require higher-order thinking engagement.
- What Fine Arts/Enrichment classes will my student be offered?
Music, Art, Drama, and STEAM courses are offered throughout the elementary school years. Students will participate in these courses for an entire year to allow students to deepen their knowledge and skills in these areas.
- What does your elementary school culture look like?
ES culture is built on the foundation of creating a familial environment. Students participate in Morning Meeting as a time to focus on and develop their social and emotional skills and peer relationships. Social Contracts are created in each classroom between teachers and students. The contracts are an agreed-upon set of norms that focus on our 4Rs (respect, responsibility, relationships, and resilience). Elementary students have the opportunity to participate in before or after-school clubs, our annual Stride for the Pride, and grade-level field trips.
- What does Service Learning mean to ECS? What opportunities do you provide?
At ECS we believe service learning opportunities enrich a student’s learning while also providing students with the valuable experience of giving back to their immediate and greater communities. Opportunities throughout the year will allow students to help with campus clean-up, donation drives, and other experiences.
