Middle School FAQs
FAQs
- What does my student’s day look like?
- MS students take four core classes each day: ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Each core class is 60 minutes in length. Students’ fifth period of the day is an elective course.
- How would you describe your academic program?
- ECS understands the importance of ensuring our students are prepared for college, career, and life. Therefore, we have created a rigorous, hands-on, academic program that challenges each student to grow to their full potential. To help reach this goal, staff regularly collects and analyzes data to develop differentiated activities. This may include Socratic seminars and other opportunities that engage students in academic and civic discourse, school performances, public speaking opportunities, formulating argumentative claims and supporting evidence, addressing real-world problems, analyzing sources of information and data, etc.
- What electives do you offer?
- Each semester, students take two elective classes for 55 minutes each. These classes are rooted in Drama, STEAM, Physical Education, Art, and Music; however, elective course offerings expand outside the general curriculum for each discipline. For example, PEPI is a PE course in which 7th and 8th grade students help lead PE activities during Kindergarten gym time. Another elective offering that builds upon students’ foundational STEAM knowledge is The History & Innovation of Lego Design. Band is an elective offered only to MS students.
- Does my student have an opportunity to earn high school credit?
- Currently, our math department offers two high school math courses to students on our accelerated Compacted pathway. Students have the potential to earn high school credit for Math I and Math II at ECS. Math III may be offered virtually through the North Carolina Virtual Public School for those who are eligible.
- What does your middle school culture look like?
- Endeavor’s charter outlines a strong focus on building and maintaining a familial environment. Our students participate in Morning Meeting, team huddles, and community/team-building events to maintain the health and social well-being of all. Social Contracts are created in each class to ensure students and staff establish an agreed-upon set of norms that follow our school’s 4 R’s: respect, responsibility, resilience, and relationships.
- Students in grades 6-8 may participate in before or after-school clubs, school dances, service opportunities, our annual Color Run, overnight field trips, and National Junior Honor Society.
- What does service learning mean to ECS? What opportunities do you provide?
- At ECS we believe service learning opportunities enrich a student’s learning while also providing students with the valuable experience of giving back to their immediate and greater communities. Middle School students are offered a wide variety of service opportunities every month; these opportunities are offered both on campus and off. Students may keep a record of their service hours to include in their National Junior Honor Society application, if eligible to apply.
